CONFERENCE Goals

The conference seeks to:

• Examine current trends, challenges, and opportunities in implementing CLIL across diverse educational contexts, from primary to higher education.
• Foster interdisciplinary dialogue on the dynamic integration of language, content, and culture within bilingual and multilingual education.
• Showcase innovative pedagogical practices and research that demonstrate the transformative potential of CLIL in fostering linguistic competence, intercultural awareness, and academic literacy.
• Promote collaboration among international and local educators to design inclusive, sustainable, and context-responsive CLIL approaches.
• Envision the future of bilingual education by addressing policy implications, teacher education, and the impact of digital technologies, artificial intelligence, and educational innovation on advancing CLIL practices.
• Discuss and visualize strategies to prevent CLIL from becoming an elitist approach and to support its implementation in Latin American contexts.

Plenary Speakers

Dr. Darío Banegas

University of Edinburgh, Scotland

Dario Luis Banegas is Senior Lecturer in Language Education and Director of Postgraduate Research at the Moray House School of Education and Sport, University of Edinburgh. He leads a course on second language curriculum and delivers lectures on CLIL and action research across the School. He is the founder of the Towards Intersectionality in Language Teacher Education (TILTED) Research Group. Before moving to Scotland, he worked as a secondary school teacher, teacher educator, and curriculum developer for the Ministry of Education of Chubut, Argentina. He continues to work as an online tutor for a distance language teacher education programme, Lenguas Vivas Bariloche. He has published extensively on CLIL, action research, and language teacher education and curriculum. He has delivered talks in Latin America, Europe, and Asia.

Dr. Begoña Belles-Fortuño

Universitat Jaume I, Spain.

Begoña Bellés Fortuño is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of English Studies at Universitat Jaume I (Spain), where she teaches in English Studies and Medicine and supervises MA and PhD research. She is Director of the Interuniversity Institute of Modern Applied Languages (IULMA) and Director of the SPARK research group, which focuses on Languages for Specific Purposes in multidisciplinary and professional higher-education contexts, with an emphasis on digital innovation, inclusivity, gender equity, and multilingualism. Her research centers on CLIL/EMI, professional and medical discourse, multilingual communication, and informed consent. She coordinates the CLHIOS project, a multidisciplinary initiative promoting CLIL/EMI pedagogies across STEM and Health Sciences. She has led and participated in numerous funded projects at institutional, regional, and national levels related to clinical communication and healthcare discourse. She is an active member of AESLA and AELFE, where she serves as Vice-President and coordinates research panels on Discourse Analysis and Genre.
